Feasting on Mt. Douglas Park Beach

Victoria, being surrounded by coastline on almost every side, has many awesome choices for parks and beaches to visit. Chances are though, unless you happen to live or drive through the Gordon Head or Cordova Bay areas that you may hardly ever visit Mt. Doug Park. The park is an awesome green space with a nice children’s park, small baseball field, hiking trails, streams, and much more. The park is very dog friendly (bring your own bags though) and it also offers an amazing coastal vista from the beach. The park is huge and there’s loads to explore… yes, there’s also picnic areas and restrooms.

The shoreline is a little tucked away and is always quiet. When the tide isn’t high there’s a great beach to explore, the views can be breath taking and you may even catch some interesting birds in the area. Dogs are welcomed off leash in the low season but are expected to be on leash during the summer months while sunbathers are around. One of my favorite times to come down to the beach is when it’s raining as the sound of the waves breaking, stream draining into the Bay and the wind roaring is really tough to explain but is an amazing wonder.
